I've been deep-diving into this idea from a slightly different angle. Someone recently introduced me to "the meta" in games, meaning "most effective tactics available." I started seeing parallels to this with algorithms. People chase the algorithm to boost visibility on platforms like Google or TikTok. Unfortunately, it also leads to content that is formulaic.

You can see something similar in the NBA. If you look at how players shoot now compared to the early 2000s, you can see that the rise of analytics has pushed teams to prioritize three-pointers and shots at the rim because they're statistically more efficient. It's the meta. Still, this focus has reduced the diversity of playstyles we used to see.
