I'm gonna assume the 8 hours of sleep is like the 10,000 steps, A number that sounds good but isn't accurate. I've seen step estimates anywhere from 6K to 8K. The people from The Ready State said if you don't sleep well make sure to walk at least 8K steps a day which I get 6 out of 7 days easy. I sleep much better now :)
Great question! Answer: Not exactly, re: the step count analogy. 10K steps would be better for most people than 8k steps (although 8k is still great). In the case of sleep, eight hours doesn't seem any better than seven.
But, yes, do keep up the steps because activity tends to help most people sleep better! More on that tomorrow ...
I recently self-published a book to Amazon called "The Sleep Solution", where I research and explore some of the more recent sleep wellness trends, providing an unbiased view backed by science and studies to see how effective each of them are. Hopefully it helps others get a better sleep.
Great stuff. If we sleep primarily to restore our brains, shouldn't the optimal amount of sleep be based on the amount needed to restore brain function?

Since hearing TRS say go for 8K steps I've been getting between 8 and 12K a day. It's absolultely helped me.
These articles are amazing. I love how you're mixing healthy advice with a healthy attitude. The stories are great, too. I just subbed for all of it.
That Lieberman book you reference was the best book I read last year. Your articles have a similar style.

That seems entirely logical! I don't know for sure. But I do know that some people function equally well on, say, 6:30 sleep as others do on 7:30.
Haha. That's a great example of one more way we've removed even small activity from our lives.
